Review: Cinderella Pantomime, Wiltshire Creative

Oh what a night! Yet again the production from Gareth Machin with writers Plested, Brown, and Wilsher did not disappoint. In fact, we think that the covid break has built this performance to be world class.

After three long years of waiting, the attention to detail, clever costumes, comedic puns and innuendos has the audience hooked with all eyes on stage – it was definitely worth waiting for.

Especially the modern music that was doctored to its own story meant that the children could relate and engage willingly at every turn.

Another on-trend reference has to be the all-round, non-stop exaggeration from the Ugly Sisters. Their take on Gen Z had us all ‘out loud’ laughing! Paired with a throwback to ‘Only Fool and Horses’ in the form of Deldini (the prince’s servant) was a clever mix of old school slapstick humour alongside modern day observational comedy.

At the top of this hilariously packed panto, was the most flamboyant of step mothers Lady Hardup. Who when overly excited and searching for an unsuspecting suitor, spoke of desires that could make most blush! Thankfully as always it goes over the heads of the younger audience who are sat dazed and confused as to why Dad is belly laughing with tears in his eyes.

If you’ve not seen a live performance for the last few years, then this is the show to book. It’s for all genders, age ranges and one of the best we have seen yet! On until the 8th January at Salisbury Playhouse, Wiltshire.

5* from the Country Child Family!
