Boolino, online e-book provider joined Fiction Express to showcase the interactive e-book platform for Primary Schools at this year’s Bett Show at ExCeL London.
Following its acquisition of Fiction Express (fictionexpress.co.uk), Boolino (boolino.co.uk) – an independent initiative to promote children’s reading and literacy – joins for the first time with Paul Humphrey, the inventor of Fiction Express. “We are very well aware of the importance of reading. Children who read for pleasure make more progress in school than those who rarely read. This is why we founded Boolino five years ago and since then, Boolino has developed into the largest online ecosystem for children’s and young adult books, offering value-added products and services to parents, bloggers, libraries and schools. With Fiction Express we are offering a very unique literacy resource to Primary teachers who we know play a pivotal role in encouraging children to read for pleasure,” explains Sven Huber, founder and CEO of Boolino.
Fiction Express e-books are published in gripping weekly episodes online every Friday at 1pm. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger and a number of plot options. Readers can vote online by 3pm the following Tuesday to decide where the plot should go next. The option with the most votes is then passed to the author who writes the next episode, live and in real time, for Friday publication.
Each weekly Fiction Express chapter is accompanied by an extensive set of teacher resources containing comprehension questions, ideas for cross-curricular extension activities, picture resources, puzzles, worksheets and much more. Three 3-books are published each half term aimed at reading ages 6+, 8+ and 10+.
Fiction Express won the Education Resources Award for Innovation and has been shortlisted for a BETT Award and an Education Investor Award. The unique resource makes reading an enjoyable, sociable and interactive experience, taking the value of e-books further than ever before. Fiction Express stories help teachers tackle issues such as engaging reluctant readers (especially boys), encouraging reading for pleasure, developing higher level reading skills and, of course, improving literacy.
Fiction Express for Schools is an entirely new concept in fiction publishing for students aged from 6 to 12. It enables readers to engage with their favourite authors in a unique and original way by allowing them to contribute to the plot.
