Country Child’s newest talent Laura Barrington checks out the sights and sounds of The Theatre Royal, Winchester, 2015 Panto!
“The Theatre Royal in Winchester has announced the return of its celebrated in-house Pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. The show will be running from 8th December 2015 to the 3rd January 2016.
With a cast of new and returning faces, written and directed by James Barry with original music by Simon Slater, Jack and the Beanstalk is set to be the perfect outing for the family over the Christmas period.
I had the wonderful opportunity to meet members of the cast and crew and within a few minutes of being inside the door of the Royal, it was obvious they loved the Pantomime. The Royal’s focus for Jack and the Beanstalk is to keep the traditional Pantomime values of a gripping magical tale, audience participation, slapstick and above all, good fun, at the forefront of their performance. If this isn’t enough, Director James Barry is enticing us with the news that Jessica Spalis, who plays the Good Fairy, will not only be wowing us with her acting and singing but also with her circus skills. James wouldn’t tell us any more, except that in audition, Jessica’s circus antics impressed him so much he had to rush home and rewrite the script to show off her talents!
Full details on Jack and the Beanstalk, including show times and prices are available on the Royal’s website. Here is the link for ease www.theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk/jack-and-the-beanstalk
And that’s not all Winchester has in store this winter…
During my visit I picked up news of some other exciting family events which will be hitting the high street during the festive period. Many of you may be familiar with Winchester’s Summer Hat Fair, well now for the first time Hat Fair have announced a Winter Woolly Hat Fair! Plus if any of you are still wondering how to fill the 24 days in the lead up to Christmas, the Theatre Royal has announced its plan to act out a live advent calendar on the streets of Winchester. This new and original idea is sure to be a hit and well worth getting out to see. I wonder what delights the Royal will have in store for us with this one.
Nobody likes to say goodbye to summer but with so much coming up, even I don’t mind watching the nights draw in.”
