A quest for the perfect cuppa is a worthy pursuit at the best of times and one not to be taken lightly.
If you are more interested in ‘builders with 2 please’ then you may not wish to read on, but if, however, you could be persuaded to try a cheeky Chinese Oolong or an expertly brewed Green Tea then I have found the perfect place for you!
Rob and Michelle Comins run Comins Tea House in Sturminster Newton. It is a Tea lovers heaven, in fact, anyone who likes a calm, serene backdrop in which to enjoy a beverage and a piece of cake would love it here.
What makes them different to any other cafe is their personal touch and amazing wealth of knowledge. They have been to a lot of the suppliers in person in India, China, Taiwan and Japan. They don’t use huge suppliers or massive companies, its all about the relationship they have with the growers.
I tried the Lishan Spring Shan Zhi Cui, it was a gorgeously floral, but not over bearing, caramel cup of loveliness. I was also very taken with the whole ceremony aspect, the careful first ‘wash’ of the leaves before the first infusion – all expertly timed on a stop watch. You warm the vessels and can infuse this type of tea seven times – great value too!
If you prefer a standard black tea then of course they have that too, as well as Green and White tea varieties and some more unusual ones.
Just ask if you’re not sure, their expertise will surely guide you to your perfect cuppa, brewed at the right temperature for the right time – you can’t go wrong!
Super family friendly with a pretty courtyard space, Comins makes a great pit stop after school, with Granny or for some solo Mummy time. Give it a go and let us know how you get on.
